THE IMPORTANCE OF POSTURE

Muscles work in symmetry, to the left and right of the body, as well as front and back. This aids balance and allows you to move efficiently with the least amount of fatigue and muscle strain. When the body becomes asymmetrical, posture shifts out of alignment, certain muscles become dysfunctional, and others are forced to compensate. Over time, this can lead to discomfort, reduced mobility, and chronic pain.

We are more sedentary now than ever before, with many of us spending large proportions of our days sat at a desk. This, combined with old injuries or repetitive movements such as driving or sitting crossed legged, contributes to this muscular imbalance. Poor posture inflicts extra wear and tear and increases the likelihood of accidents and injuries. As your muscles work harder to simply keep you upright and balanced, they become tight and inflexible. To maintain the body’s functional design, it’s essential to move regularly and guide your muscles and joints through their full range of motion. Movement is fundamental and it directly influences how well your body adapts to the physical demands and daily stresses placed upon it.

Motion and movement heal – the body is meant to move properly in alignment.

As a Postural Alignment Specialist, I look at the body as a whole rather than focusing solely on symptoms. I create a personalised sequence of exercises designed to wake up, stretch, and strengthen dysfunctional muscles. Progressively, these tailored routines help realign the body and reduce pain.

Effective Postural Alignment requires consistency and commitment. By completing your exercise menu on a regular basis, you will create changes as muscles habituate and bring the body into functional alignment. This will improve your range of movement, restore balance and reduce the risk of future injuries.

ABOUT

ABOUT

IMG_2529_edited.jpg

I am a Registered General Nurse and Specialist Community Public Health Nurse with over 25 years of experience. During lockdown, I discovered the Egoscue method and saw first-hand the power of Postural Alignment Therapy. My husband had lived with years of knee pain when other treatments had only offered short-term relief, but after committing to a personalised postural alignment programme, his pain resolved and he was discharged from consultant care.

This experience inspired me to train as a Postural Alignment Specialist, qualifying in 2021. Postural Alignment Therapy changed the way I view the body, focusing on posture and the root cause of pain, rather than just the symptoms. I am passionate about helping people move freely, restore balance, and become pain free, through education, guidance, and tailored exercise programmes designed from a whole-body perspective. My aim is to help you return to the activities you love.
